Very good condition; two small professional repairs (observable only from the back). Original Art Nouveau frame.
The painting is signed Th. Friis a known pseudonym for Mark Osman Curtis. The artist was Scottish, but lived and worked in Denmark. He used a variety of pseudonyms, suggesting that he worked under contract to several department stores and/or galleries. He was a recluse who, nevertheless, was known by virtually every art dealer in Denmark.
Note: At his best, Curtis was very good – with some paintings selling in the four digits. This painting deserves comparison with the artist’s best work. The biographical data was provided from the Danish gallery from whom the painting was acquired.
