English School – Early 20th Century
Malvern Church, watercolor, 13.5″ x 10.5″sight, 20.5″ x 17.5″ frame
Excellent condition; quality gold-gilt frame with gray/white matt.
This painting demonstrates the best of English watercolor tradition – fine draftsmanship and attention to detail with strong but refined color. It could be the work of any number of early 20th century artists, but is unsigned and has not been out of the frame since before 2003. It was purchased from Ascot identified only as “English School”.
Estimate: $500. Offers invited.

English School – 20th Century
Lake Scene, watercolor, signed indistinctly l/r, 9.5″ x 10.75″ sight, 13.5″ x 17.5″frame
Very good condition. Frame is scuffed but could be polished and hung as is; the watercolor and line/wash mount would justify the cost of replacing the molding. The inscription l/r could be a description and not a signature.
This painting was executed using a “wet-wash technique” and is no doubt the work of a professional artist. The line/wash mount (French matt) is a refining element. It was acquired from an English antique shop. My photographic skills do not adequately reveal the quality of this painting!
Estimate: $200. Offers invited.

English School (Mid-20th Century)
M.L.S Gorthon, Helsinborg, Surrey Docks 1958, watercolor, unsigned, 20″ x 24.5″ frame
The watercolor is in excellent condition with an attractive frame. Acquired from an English source in 2007 who provided me with the following information: “Surrey Docks is the only docks in South London, it was in use from 1807- 1970. It covered 22 acres of water, taking in Hemp, Timber, Grain, & other much other needed cargo.”
Photographing art under glass is never easy and I don’t have the expertise to provide professional images – but I can provide larger images upon request. Due to the lack of attribution, this watercolor’s estimated value does not reflect the quality of the painting.
Estimate: $250. Offers invited.
