Excellent condition; original matt and frame. Purchased c. 2007 from a visitor to the gallery offering four Hedley Fitton etchings for sale – all with the same matt and frame. The other three were sold within days but this one was not offered for sale (the subject is a Wynd onto the Cannongate in Edinburgh from the property of Moray House with personal associations).

Hedley Fitton was born in Manchester in 1857 and during his early years worked as an editor and illustrator for the ‘Daily Chronicle’. He later became a prominent etcher and was well-known for his architectural subjects with exhibitions at the Royal Academy and Paris Salon in the early 1900’s. He died aged 72 in 1929.

Fitton’s etchings are of consistent quality and highly prized by collectors.
