Alexander Gillespie was an Edinburgh artist who exhibited at the R.S.A. and R.S.W. Remembered as a successful local artist and noted for mixing blue ink with his watercolor.
This watercolor was purchased from an interior decorator in Stockbridge, Edinburgh in 1970 with a shipping scene by Charles J. De Lacy, an English artist of rather greater accomplishment. It has been reframed and has a tiny tear above the lower right corner which is unobtrusive. It’s been hung and enjoyed for over fifty years!
The framed image is spoiled by light reflection on the glass. I’ve failed in most of my efforts to photograph glazed paintings!
