Born 1962 in Glasgow, David Hosie studied at Edinburgh College of Art 1980-86, and continued there as a part-time lecturer in painting. He has exhibited in both Edinburgh and Glasgow since 1985, and in 1987 held his first one man show at the RAAB Gallery in London and in Berlin. Other exhibitions include shows in Milan, Marseilles, Breda, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
David confirmed to me via email that this is one of the paintings he exhibited in London before moving to West Africa. He now lives and works in Gambia where he is creating colorful figure paintings – both formal and informal. I’ve subsequently seen images of that work and though a departure from his previous painting in the U. K. his superlative artistic talent is still very much evident.
David Hosie’s works are included in the collections of City Arts Centre, Edinburgh, Royal Scottish Academy, The Scottish Arts Council, Contemporary Art Society, Bankers Trust, Unilever PLC, Electra PLC, Allied Breweries, Price Waterhouse Coopers, WH Smith & Son Ltd, Robert Fleming & Co. and Accenture.
