Very good condition – not examined out of frames. Potentially, an inscription verso could identify the sitters.

Henry Kerr was a painter of portraits and figure subjects in watercolour. Born in Edinburgh, educated at Dundee, and studied art at the R.S.A. Schools, Edinburgh. Worked largely in Scotland but also spent some time in Holland where he came under the influence of Israels, Maris and Mauve. Elected R.S.W. 1899, A.R.S.A. 1893 and R.S.A. 1909. Lived in Edinburgh. – from Dictionary of British Artists Working 1900-1950 by Grant M. Waters.

Kerr’s paintings are included in many public collections including the National Gallery of Scotland, Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Dundee AG, Glasgow AG, Kirkcaldy AG, and the City of Edinburgh Collection. He is best known for his Scottish portraits of ordinary people, but also painted the important personages of the day.
