Very good condition; old, original frame; executed on prepared artist canvas panel and inscribed on the backing with the following notes: “Painted Dec 1964, Phot’d Feb 1965, Varnished 3/26/66.” The surface of the painting could use another coat of varnish!
Luigi is a common Italian name and AskArt.com lists at least eighteen possibilities! Paintings of this genre, imported from Italy, are commonly seen in British auctions but this one has the date “3/26/66” is written in the American style, suggesting that the artist could have been American. It was aquired from California in 1998 adding another reason to think the artist was American. The frame has no identifying characteristics, so this “Luigi” is listed as “Unknown”.
