Lester G. Hornby

Thistle Fine Art is pleased to present a small collection from the estate of Lester G. Hornby. One of the founders of the Rockport Art Colony, Hornby is one of the least well known – despite critical success during his lifetime. His etchings were especially well received and this collection includes some fine examples of his French period during and following WW1. Less well known are his watercolors. They are evocative of the subjects he painted without pandering to the prevailing styles of the day – relying instead on strength of line and subtle color. The small collection presented here is indicative of his genius and provides a great starting point for buyers wishing to build a collection around the works of an important, but undervalued artist.
